Parent –Child Partner Journals
.
This year your child will be embarking on a new journey in writing. Students in grades three,
four, and five will be learning and practicing strategies that will make them better writers. We will be
spending at least an hour each day improving our writing skills. Your assistance is being requested as students in grades 3 and 4 launch Parent–Child Partner Journals, while students from grade 5 continue their journals from last year. These journals have been designed for you and your child to share the craft of writing together. We will begin this special project beginning the week of October 1st and ending the week of December 6th.
Your part is easy and would include:
1. Choosing a writing prompt from a list (or choosing your own
topic).
2. Writing for approximately 5 to 10 minutes in the journal, once
a week.
3. Giving the journal to your child to write a response.
4. Reading your child’s writing and discussing it together
briefly.
The goal of this project is to spend time together writing for enjoyment
while developing writing skills. You may discuss together correct use of grammar, punctuation, and
spelling. We are focusing on conveying ideas and communicating with each other.
